Colloid is a type of suspension in which the molecules suspended in the solvent have a size not exceeding 100 nm. Thanks to this, the particles do not sink to the bottom of the container (they do not decant) because such extremely small particle size guarantees their maintenance in the solvent. Moreover, the ability to create colloids is characteristic for nanoparticles. The colloids also show an extraordinary ability to scatter light (Tyndall’s phenomenon). Thanks to the laser pointer, it is easy to detect the presence of nanoparticles in liquid.
